Laboratoire d'Ecogéochimie des Environnements Benthiques
UMR 8222

Welcome to LECOB UMR 8222

The Benthic Ecogeochemistry Laboratory of the Banyuls marine station is a joint laboratory of the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC, Paris 6) and the CNRS (Ecology and Environment Institute). LECOB (UMR 8222) combines multidisciplinary skills from the fields of marine ecology and biodiversity and marine environmental sciences. Our research priorities are dedicated to the interactions between the living and non-living components of benthic ecosystems and their integration into models. Our aim is to describe the dynamics and functional properties of benthic communities using approaches combining the description of biodiversity (from molecular diversity to communities and habitats), mathematical modeling and experimentation in both shallow and deep-sea environments.
